Stargazers Lounge is an excellent forum, and well worth joining. The people are knowledgeable and friendly, and always happy to answer questions you have. They’ve helped me more times that I can remember.

First Light Optics is, in my opinion, the best retailer of astronomy kit.

365 Astronomy is another good retailer.

AstroGear Today is my go-to reviews site, (and not just because I write for them!)

lukomatico produces good YouTube tutorials about PixInsight processing, among other things.

Cuiv the Lazy Geek makes lots of videos that are worth a look.

Cosgrove’s Cosmos is an excellent site filled with useful information, including detailed processing walkthroughs.

Astrostace‘s video about a budget pier was the starting point of making my own.

Deep Sky Astrophotography With CMOS Cameras by Dr Robin Glover explains the science of why modern CMOS cameras are well-suited to short exposure times.

Astrobiscuit‘s YouTube videos are ace.

Stellarium is free planetarium software, good for planning imaging sessions.

Light Pollution Map gives you an idea of your local sky conditions.

Clear Outside is a weather forecasting site for stargazers.

Mitch’s 12-part PixInsight tutorial is a good starting point to learning PixInsight, although the software has been updated a few times since these videos were made.


Nothing will motivate me to create more content quite like money!

    Do you have an email blast?. Do you send out notifications for new content?
    I don’t see a link where I can add my email so notices can get to me…
    I’m the president of a local amateur astronomy club across the pond in NY and would like to let people know about your work.

      Hi Jason, I don’t have that function set up yet. I need to put some time into investigating exactly how to do it! Some quick Googling for tutorials has made my head spin… So in the meantime, people should just visit the website every month or so to see new content. If your astro club would like an online talk from me about astrophotography from a city, I’d be happy to do that.
